Frequently Asked Questions
Make sure your hand is well-lit and fully in frame. Try moving closer to the camera so your hand fills more of the screen. If accuracy is still low, open Settings and lower the confidence threshold slider.
Yes. Signer automatically detects both left and right hands. No setting change is required.
No. All sign detection, speech, and 3D avatar features work entirely offline. No data is ever sent to a server.
Yes. The avatar uses a detailed 3D model (~60 MB) that is bundled with the app. It pre-loads in the background when the app opens, so the delay only happens once per session.
Tap the camera flip icon in the top-right corner of the camera screen. On iPhone models with multiple rear lenses, you can also switch between wide and ultra-wide zoom levels.
Confidence Threshold โ how certain the model must be before registering a letter. Lower it if detection feels too strict.
Hold Duration โ how long you need to hold a sign before it counts.
Skeleton โ toggles the hand joint overlay.
Background Mask โ replaces the background with a solid color for cleaner detection.
Auto-Speech โ speaks each detected letter aloud automatically.
Go to Settings โ Privacy & Security โ Camera, find Signer in the list, and toggle it on.
Signer requires iOS 18.6 or later on iPhone, or iPadOS 18.6 or later on iPad.
